One time when I lived on a ranch in the central coast of California in 1997 a cat that lived outside but belonged to my landlords bit me hard in the thick pad of my right hand. It was a large orange and yellow ish cat (I’m a bit colorblind so don’t hold me to it), and it drew blood.

I was enraged at that fuck, so I chased it, and it hid under my landlord’s pickup truck. So I picked up some pebbles from the driveway and started skimming them sidearm toward him, bouncing them off the ground in his direction.

After a few pebbles it dawned on me what I was doing — taking revenge on a cat, so I stopped, even though my palm was still in pain, and I was worried about what diseases he (Quincy) might have given me. (None it turned out, as far as I know.)

When people I knew — former colleagues in the fantasy sports industry — tried to call me out and publicly embarrass me when I spoke my mind about mandating the covid shots, I took a lot of screen shots. I was pretty sure how gross it would look a few years hence.

Now I have them dead to rights, so to speak, as they’re hiding under the truck, the entire mania likely memory-holed.

But I don’t throw the sharp edged pebbles. They showed themselves to be frightened animals, desperate to belong, incapable of critical thought or agency.

There’s nothing to gain by taking revenge on losers like that. It’s almost laughable in retrospect that it ever bothered me.
