A problem with classical conceptions of God is a lack of understanding of the role of inhibitors.
Man is made in the imago dei, but in the brain, we can see that what sets the human brain apart from a dog's is that each part of the brain has inhibitors that stop all the other parts from working correctly
Even more fundamentally, look at laws of physics. Without gravity, there is no unity. Oneness, the fundamental property we assign to God, is conceptually impossible on even the most basic level without restriction.
It's unintuitive, but this is how things actually work. I would suggest that each law of reality is an angel, and gods are more like what happens when those angels overlap into a cohesive structure, that in turn, can perfectly game those laws to achieve a goal (and lower beings are the same, but on a more microscopic level, and more imperfect.)
But laws of physics seem to have the capacity for change. We don't know how, but it did happen near the beginning of our current universe, meaning even this God isn't immortal. Perhaps there was originally one single law, an Angel God, who spawned the multiplicity of angels, but that doesn't seem to be the state of things now.
In this, Shakyamuni Buddha is right. As far as man can see, all is ephemeral.
