I consider myself a leftist/activist, since I co-chaired a Jesse Jackson presidential campaign in a very conservative county in 1984. IMO there has never been an influential leftist presence in American politics. Well… since FDR. We came close during the Viet Nam war peace movement, but no cigar. And we don’t have the option of participating in a coalition government like in multi-party parliamentary systems; so the best we can do is huddle under the Democrats ‘big tent’ and hope our voices are heard. I’m personally encouraged by ‘The Squad’, and some of the more left-leaning state and local governments. But unless and until something like #ClimateChange or radical governmental overreach (like military-assisted #MassDeportations, shutting down the Education Dept, things like that) mobilizes the masses, we’re left with just soldiering on - as some of us have been doing for over 40 years. If it’s right and honorable, it’s worth the long fight. #USPolitics #politics #hope
