Given that the plot is "Nationalism kills people... in space!" and how the books take a much more explicitly dim and cynical view to life on Earth and Mars, I think the Expanse is far more spiritually and politically accurate. It's very clearly of the view that space settlement will _not_ usher in a new utopian era.
It just needs the Epstein to explore that the same way Star Trek needs warp to explore the opposite view.
