What a beautiful relationship you are building.
I've taken my son pony riding three times. The first two times it was to a horse-rescue-sanctuary. The owner is an incredibly kind person, each horse is addressed as a full individual. I petted the horse and it felt like the horse returned the feeling. This horse was carrying kids because he wanted.
A few weeks back we went to a different place. It was way much more commercial. I didn't like it. They had a lot of horses, classes, rides scheduled all day. When I petted the horse I felt this weird .. field.. like the horse had put on a field of distrust around him. He was doing his job because he had to, but it was not his will. I felt moved to send a silent apology to him.
