I myself haven't encountered, but some USB devices could claim to be multi functional one, typically one for upgrading/managing and another to be the actual device.
So if it works on Linux without proprietary components from the manufacturer, it could be the case, which FreeBSD is not good at in many cases by default.
I've lost track with, but IIRC, there is a (some?) port(s) to switch the mode (function) of USB devices.
Another possibility is that adding its Vendor/Product ID in usbdevs and/or driver to be detected correctly with proper quirks set.
