I am much more skeptical about the relationship between the US Government and Meta and the clear and direct line to the NSA/DHS. At least the Chinese are clear about having a police state, we just live in one without transparency of any kind.
It’s hypocritical in every way and it’s fine, I am just not sure the end user was part of the equation. Fact is, overwhelming public support says the government is wrong, I believe, maybe not the same way but I do believe public opinion was fully left out of the discussion and is wrong.
It’s a government/business thing not a people thing. It’s the difference between options and free, just because there’s an alternative doesn’t mean it’s best for me in this case. It’s not a tech issue, it’s a money issue.
