Relays don't store much actual data. And what they do store they routinely deleted when it gets old.
Nostr as an authentication mechanism: definitely possible.
Nostr to store settings for a read-only operating system: possible for some applications that don't need to store much data.
You could store a key used to decrypt local files, I guess. Or use an external server to store the files. Or Blossom / IPFS, but that gets both slow and potentially unavailable.
