The common cliche is to rave about visiting the technology mecca #Japan. My experience has been the opposite. It was a technology marvel in the 1980s and 1990s, and it is still a technology marvel for the 1980s and 1990s. Ie. it's stuck there, unable to move beyond that.
For instance yes, there are machines for ordering ramen by pressing buttons. Fantastico for 1980s. But you pay with cash.
