The U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has said in an op-ed for The New York Times that he thinks social media platforms should have tobacco-like health warnings, highlighting their link with “significant mental health harms for adolescents.”

However, Ars Technica (npub15wh…e9hw) asks if such a broad-brush approach could actually end up harming kids, by not tackling the root cause of the issue, and ignoring the benefits social media can offer — especially to children in marginalized groups.
