I use the SwitchBot as a poor man's external watchdog. They sit around, pinging local servers or 8.8.8.8 and automatically power cycle on failure. I'll probably break down and get a rack mount switched PDU but those things are expensive and takes away from my mini/keyboard/monitor budget!
