My parents worked in military intelligence at one point and one thing I learned from them (without getting classified information - they were extremely scrupulous about that) was whatever the news reports is pretty much entirely manufactured to give you the ideas they want you to have even if they include snippets of truth. The information is as complete as they wanted it to be - which is to say not. If it's even remotely true, which it usually isn't.

Generally the only part they'll report correctly is the what (if the what is true), and possibly the who if it's general enough. Watching the Berlin Wall fall back in 1989, which we did together live, for example, you knew it was East and West Germans and you knew the wall was going down. You knew people were standing in what used to be a kill zone and you knew it was the end of something, but the official narrative had not been solidified yet.
