AI is incredibly energy and infrastructure thirsty, and thus expensive to build and maintain, but the only AI-generated things they seem to be able to sell are either not profitable, or produce easily identifiable "slop" that people instantly hate. Attempts at using AI for inappropriate things like rule enforcement and facial recognition, still regularly produce ludicrous "hallucinated" results that enrage people, and that's inherent in the technology. All the current AI companies are seriously over-leveraged on venture capital, and at some point these backers will want a pay day. If they don't get it, funding will dry up and then collapse will quickly ensue.

I hope it's not just my blind faith in human nature, but people (not execs) want stuff that has meaning and intent behind it, but AI (especially LLM's and related tech) just regurgitates effectively randomly chosen combinations of elements from their training data. There is no meaning or intent, and no reasoning.
