This sort of thing isn't that unusual -- iirc the Hindi word for uncle is "mama". Family relational names are thought to derived heavily from baby-talk, the sort of sounds that v young children have an easy time forming. So oft we end up with the same baby-talk derived collections of sounds arising but meaning different things in different languages.
