The more I observe this space, the things we debate and the design things I work on, the more I see how Twitter was basically a work of art - solving the problems we seek to solve way ahead of our time. Sure, they didn’t have to deal with relays, but the amount of thought and work that went into things must have been tremendous. From design perspective, twitter is really fking good. I praise it every time I’m stuck and see how Twitter did it, to realize they had probably ran into the same issues and solved it in a brilliant way.
Whatever your disagreements were with Twitter, the missing features, the lack of meeting “full potential”, you have to admit they did a lot of things right and a lot of things really well. It takes working through these problems ourselves to see that, but I can see how to an outside observer it’s all “very obvious” and of course it would work!
We may not realize it yet, but we’re going to run into all of the same problems Twitter faced, and will likely face all of the same criticisms. The difference is it’s all open and no one entity is responsible for everything.
Anyway, props to Twitter developers and designers, they have my full respect 🫡🫡🫡
