It is laughable because mental health, or at least substantial aspects of it, should be considered pseudoscience (imo). Touting "holding space" as some sort of revolutionary concept that will boost our mental well-being is insane. The reality is that the idea described in the article is nothing more than a rebranded version of basic human empathy.
It's astounding that the fiat system has incentivized people to spend 6-10 years and accumulate hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to become self-proclaimed “experts” who can tell us that humans have emotions and we should listen to them. Newsflash: humans have been experiencing emotions for centuries, and the notion that we need to pay exorbitant amounts of money to learn how to acknowledge and validate each other's feelings is absurd. Referring to these people as “experts” only diminishes the reputation of true experts who have actually earned their stripes.
The fact that this article presents "holding space" as some kind of groundbreaking concept only serves to highlight the vacuity of modern mental health discourse. When celebrities are rambling nonsense and “experts” start reinterpreting it as mental health advice, it's time to take a step back. Have you seen the press tour this article is referencing? The two actresses don't exactly come across as mentally well themselves. I don’t think we should be basing “mental health advice” on them.
Just my two cents— curious to hear yours. 🫡
