for areas prone to wildfire keep in mind that the fire service's priorities are:
life
property
environment
If they have to go save your ass because you didn't evacuate when you should have? people are going to lose their homes because instead of doing structure defense or fire line work they'll be rescuing your sorry ass.
If you don't have the training and the equipment - you aren't stopping a wildfire. People don't realize how HOT it gets.
You don't have to wait to be told to evacuate. If you feel unsafe leave. If you have pets, children or people who move slowly? Evacuate early.
And remember it's easier to evacuate at 2:00pm than it is at 2:00am.
Don't have a car or a way to evacuate? Make a plan with a neighbor. Consider any other options.
Have somebody with mobility issues? Contact the local fire agency or EMS to make a plan ahead of time.
We hear it all the time on the scanner. "Resident at 123 Main street is seeking evacuation help for a bed ridden 90 year old female..."
