So naturally Musk and Trump have shut down the Bureau. But, as Adam Levitin writes for *Credit Slips*, this was a profoundly stupid move. You see, under Dodd-Frank - the post-2008 financial crisis law that created the CFPB - state attorneys general are empowered to enforce its rules. Those rules can't be amended or rescinded for so long as the CFPB is in a coma.
