controlling what apps are installed so chinese spyware disguised as a mobile game can't steal data, pushing out apps and configurations so everything just works, having a single manufacturer and model/line of phones so they're easy for help desk to support, being able to lock or wipe them if one is lost or stolen or the employee leaves, etc
otherwise you're dooming help desk to spend 4 hours on the phone with 66 year old Bob the district manager in a fruitless attempt to install the authenticator app (he doesn't know what kind of phone he has, thinks it's a "samsung verizon" when it's really an iphone 10, keeps referring to it as a "blackberry", and even if you can get him to open the app store, he doesn't know his apple ID or password)
