Yesterday I was a wreck and just talked to the vet on the phone, but today I went to see my girl and bring a few bags of her pellet mix in the hopes she rallies. She’s about the same, maybe slightly improved - less reflux and they got some water and calories into her via the NG tube and it was digested. But she doesn’t look good, y’all. I think if she’s not rallying by tomorrow afternoon I need to let her go.
Miss D recognized me, but she didn’t give me more than a turned ear when I went in. I offered withers scratches but she didn’t want those. I tried butt scratches and she *did* enjoy that - she gets gross itchy smegma between her udders and in her butt crack, and part of my job as her servant is to scratch her butt. I was so relieved that she enjoyed that.
And then I brought the stanky gloves home and let Samwise smell them while I kept telling him what was up. She’s sick, and she’s somewhere else, and they’re trying to help her, and we’ll get her back as soon as possible hopefully. He was ambling up to investigate my treats, and when he smelled the glove, he jumped like he’d been shocked. He was immediately distrustful - why did I smell like her if she wasn’t here? - but I kept talking, offering treats, and letting him smell the gloves. He slowly relaxed, and hopefully he’s figured out what I was trying to convey.
I’m dissociating almost completely. It’s what I always do in emergencies. I could think really hard about all of this and break down crying, but that’s not helpful so I’m not doing it. Time for that afterwards.
I need to call the other lady and talk about the gelding - we had a nice chat online already - but I need to let my brain be mush for a while first.
