The only reason this was briefly not the case is bc the tools to control people online weren't mature yet, and neither were addictive algos that keep people engaged.
They are mature now. We are never going back. If you want universal reach, go to a universal place. It's never going to be a "free speech" place because the only people who need to argue and build alternatives for their free speech are schizophrenics who frighten all of polite society. No one wants you around except other freaks.
Maybe other big companies will come to Fedi and adopt ActivityPub or smth like it, but you'll never be a part of that either.
