Most people (bitcoiners included) are culturally conditioned to only consider worthwhile efforts they can personally witness bear fruit. The idea of never seeing that sunrise is terrifying, even if there's a good chance your children or grandchildren will live to experience it.
This kind of low time preference doesn't come easy
