Either from external pressure or local famine the migrations from East to West happened for over a thousand years and probably in prehistory before that as well.
They were violent and uncompromising at times and then became a part of the Western population, they stopped because the land stopped or they found sufficient land to thrive.
How do we manage that today with a global population of over 7 billion, in 400CE it was about 200 million?
