They can generate in very light winds, but have an optimal wind speed of about 7-8m/s (from memory) but will generate from about 3m/s to about 25m/s when the computers will start to shut down to save the machinery. I always argued that they should be combining windfarms with staged height dams. Pump the water up, then hydro power it out. Inefficient, but also not.
