I must have a very different idea of what constitutes a rock garden. mine last year was low-growing, mat-forming plants very densely planted to crawl over the surrounding rocks; I was remembering the way the granite used to be covered back home and went with that. all the images I can find are basically "a garden, but with some rocks in it".
