It's not that I don't like to crank it up, but really loud music has a deleterious effect. Not only does it destroy your hearing, it also colors the experience in a negative fashion. Details are not as sharp, the sort of "gotcha" of well-crafted passages is obscured or eliminated. Over all, that level of harmonic distortion makes fine music sound worse. I'm speaking in practical, objective terms...
