If you want your intellectual property to benefit your descendants in perpetuity, that doesn't mean you get to put your works under perpetual copyright. (And if you want your works to enter the public domain on your death, you better not have sold any rights to a publisher.)
Possibly I am jaundiced by seeing too many literary estates being purchased by corporations and used to generate as much profit as possible, regardless of whether the use shows any respect for the author's work.
