i wish they both didn't set out to reinvent the much simpler and more well-established open social web defined by RSS.
both ActivityPub and ATProto are ways to lock users in, when RSS would have been a bet on user freedom.
it's sad that it has come to this. but very very very predictable, given the history of tech.
