hirees and hire-ers can you explain to me your experience or the thought process (respectively) when hiring an experienced dev that doesn't write the language you want them to code in?

Is it as simple as a competitive labor market?
Is the passion > than the cost it takes for the employee to get 'up to speed'?
Day one of your new job do you pickup a coding book on the new language and start from page one while collecting money from your new employer?

I'm trying to figure out how complex this topic is. I've been studying software and the industry consistently for about 5 years now and it still seems wild and weird in a way few other things are.

I'm picturing someone leaving their industry where they write in like javascript or python to work on #bitcoin and dropping their salary 30-50? percent so they can pick up a book/s on Rust, C, C++, etc.

It seems like a lot of bitcoiners might be like 'duh', but for a fair amount of people who work in tradtech I imagine they keep their job, stack sats, and maybe learn Rust/C in their free time.

This all seems a bit obvious to me after writing it, but it'd be cool to hear peoples stories and decision making process. I imagine from an entrepreneurs perspective they think something like 'I'm going to deploy this cash flow for top talent to innovate...and the spend is worth it/well hedged".
