🚨 Portland General Electric (PGE) is requesting approval to clearcut 4.78 acres of Forest Park. All work in Forest Park is proposed within existing PGE utility easements. I’m a bit confused on the information that’s currently public, but from my understanding PGE already has land use permits to do this from past projects, though they still need to submit their plans and hear from public testimony. Some articles state that PGE has already submitted their plans as of Monday. As of a year ago, PGE had this spring marked as their desired start date, so things will likely unfold fairly soon which seems to be confirmed by their recent proposal submission.
“In the next five years Intel will likely build one new semiconductor fabrication plant and rebuild another. Each fab plant uses as much electricity as 50,000 homes. To meet this growth, PGE will expand delivery of power generated east of Portland to its new substation in Linnton, and on to Hillsboro. The most direct route to do this is through Forest Park, which would necessitate logging swaths of the totemic park.”
So while PGE is currently wanting to clearcut almost 5 acres, they will likely need to expand the clear cutting even more afterwards to adequately assist Intels growth. I will be closely following this situation as it unfolds and update as necessary. If you have any information please reach out to me, my proton is in my bio and my signal is thawraa.161
