I wonder if it would be smart if someone set up a general donation/subscription fund for times when a Fedi service becomes overwhelmingly popular in a short amount of time, that would go straight to scaling up their servers?

That way the response time to the surge would be faster because the admin doesn’t have to ask people for donations. The money will just be allocated to them.

It’s an idea anyway. I’ll leave it to smarter people to figure out if it’s worth doing.
