Thoughts on increasing the adoption of Bitcoin:
In my opinion, the way forward with people, especially beginners, it is humbleness, patience, and empathy.
Statements like “have fun staying poor”, “DYOR” (only when it comes from a position of arrogance), “enjoy zee bugs”, and the likes, may have the opposite effect of the intended one.
Bitcoin can be daunting and in most cases, even for technical people, it presents a steep learning curve. Not all people are created equal and fair and genuine questions don’t always mean people are looking for handouts or handholding.
Before I started stacking sats, I had read blogs, listened to podcasts, and read a few books recommended in this space. After months, I had not learnt yet where or how to buy Bitcoin from any of them.
In addition, the little I thought I may knew in that regard was confronted with other information I had heard or read, which made me had doubts of my own knowledge. And I was also scared of asking certain questions to answer those doubts for fear of the responses.
Some people are more risk averse than others, some are more intelligent than others, some more resourceful and capable than others. Questions not always imply someone is lazy, has not done some sort of due dilligence, etc.
Even if that was the case, I would rather help and guide someone if that meant he or she would adopt Bitcoin. The more people adopt it, the more we all win.
By no means I am implying the Bitcoin community is unhelpful or arrogant. Rather far from that. I am only expressing an opinion about some statements. There are nuances, there may be different opinions.
You may agree or disagree and debate is welcome and healthy.
On a final note, I always encourage people to take ownership of their actions and decisions. Islam teaches us radical responsibility for one’s own actions and decisions.
