Okay. Got my new mainboard and CPU.
I'm out $40. Well, now I know for a fact that the PSU is dead, dead, deadski. So I'm also out whatever that costs to replace. What have I gained?
Well, the new board is a workstation specific model; it has six RAM slots instead of four, and will take a six-core Xeon instead of topping out at a four-core. It will also take unbuffered ECC DDR3, which I may be able to get fairly cheap on the used market. It has six SATA ports, and two SASI ports. Oh, and it has six x16 PCIe slots. So it's not exactly useless, especially for the price.
But first, I need to lay hands on two things: A modern-ish ATX power supply, and a better case for it than the Tower of Jank.
