In his National Press Day speech earlier today President Jokowi said he has signed the Publisher’s Rights Presidential Regulation which requires owners of public platforms like Apple, Meta, X, and Google to pay for links to news articles.

No word on which version is signed but a version of the draft requires publishers to belong to a collection agency or association that handles the payments.

This regulation is similar to the platform regulations on news publishing in Australia and Canada
