Special W is Weyermann's clone of the infamous Special B Malt by Briess. At the time I ordered supplies I could not get Special B at any of my usual homebrew shops so I decided to give this more local option a shot. If it works the same as Special B it will bring some color and dark-fruited caramelyness to the beer.
The Carafa 2 Special is supposed to give the beer a darker color and just a touch of roast. I use the de-husked Special version to avoid astringency from the roasted malt.
