Amongst the Nurses, they were paid the same as me and many opted to forego short holidays during the year in favour of one long holiday to go and see family back home. I really don't know where this pervasive rumour about undercutting wages comes from, but it wasn't my experience. Overseas workers were also in unions, and unions would simply not have allowed below minimum wage. For carers in the community or care homes there is very very little training available to have a 'career pathway' simply because there are not the staff to cover for those going on training.
