After last year's disastrous attempt at stratification of my walnuts, I'm trying again with both walnuts and chestnuts.
Apparently the walnuts shouldn't be kept for months in a damp bag in the fridge or they end up as fungi food. It appears that I should only stratify them for a week (some recommend drilling a hole in the top of the nut). Recommendations much appreciated.
According to online stuff, chestnuts need stratifying for far longer, so I'll probably bung them in pots outside over the winter and see how it goes. Also, these appear to be rather fragile, having been de-nutted. Again, if there are any experts out there, I'd appreciate your advice (I'm at ~700m in the Massif Central).
