Swedish author and illustrator of children's books Elsa Beskow died #OTD in 1953.
Beskow's first book, "Sagan om den lilla, lilla gumman", was published in 1897. It was followed by "Tomtebobarnen" (1910), "Pelle Svanslös" and "Aunt Green, Aunt Brown, and Aunt Lavender" (1918). In her honor, the Elsa Beskow Award was established in 1958 by the Swedish Library Association. This award is given annually to the best Swedish picture book illustrator.
