I only learned this past year in LynAlden (nprofile…v7p4) ‘s book that the British govt. lied to their people about war bonds selling like crazy to fund the great war when in fact they were just printing money.
It would be wild to learn that the British faked this too.

The British intercepted and decoded it, then forwarded to the US. That telegram was a big factor in the US entering World War I.
