The end user doesn’t care what the rendering engine of a browser is and they’ve overwhelmingly stuck with the defaults. But having control over the most popular browser engine on your device is vital.
Ceding that control to Google would be a major strategic disaster. It would be an extremely dumb decision and Apple usually isn’t that dumb. It’s often callous, indifferent, and arrogant, but rarely outright dumb.
