it feels increasingly clear that #SocialMedia is going to fall into one of three categories on a long enough timeline:
1) run by a large for-profit that will harvest user data to target ads and/or feed AI engines (e.g. Meta)
2) run by a large non-profit that is going to constantly need to fund raise (e.g. Wikipedia)
3) run by smaller time weirdos that likely won't really scale (e.g. my raspberry pi 4)
personally, for where I want to spend my time, I'm weighting them 3 > 2 >>> 1, but ymmv
