It's pretty complicated, huge world, it's multiplayer, and like everything these days, it combines various genres.
Personally, I prefer single player stuff so I'm not really up to date on the 800+ games that come out monthly on steam alone... But I would be pretty surprised if there were no open world (to degree of AC at least).
I have no clue what fortnite is (genre-wise), since it just looks like a shooter to me. Can't help there.
