After the breaking up of traditional societal structures and the reordering of society compliant with ideas the elites held, notions of some kind of invisible hand ,which would magically take care of human flourishing on an individual as well as collective level , were articulated by people like Mandeville and Smith, it’s actually laughable how stupid one has to be, to believe in such nonsense. I think AHM said it best here, although he used it in the context of the secular Arab it can most definitely be appropriated to fit basically everybody in contemporary times ;
