But just talking about mars. I'm familiar with the Oklo Gabon nuclear reactor. It's interesting but was also completely random, uncontrolled, and potentially very isolated as a source like what would be needed on a planetary scale.

Maybe, if the scientists are right and the core is some kind of thorium reactor, Mars either didn't have enough to sustain its core or something poisoned it.

Okay, going to totally throw this out there but, maybe proximity to Jupiter. Just look at the astroid belt.
