I still use this system and it definitely helps me. But I started adopting another (common) strategy: giant physical task dashboards (organized by columns for progress stages) with post-its on my walls for recurring things like papers, grants, reimbursements, evaluations (thesis, papers) and ethics. It complements nicely the short executive to-do list and replaces several of the expansive side to do lists. It really helps just seeing all these important things neatly organized in the physical world and also it has an interesting esthetic for office decoration.
