Poem a day, Day #24

I once planted a seed to see it grow.
But I wouldn't live to see how high it would go.

I watered its shoots, and talked to its leaves,
but would be gone before the shade of its leaves.

I planted a seed, not for today, but anon.
I made a plan for its care when I'm gone.

My son saw me, regularly and with care,
Watering and saying, son, "look there."

"One day you will have a spot in the shade,
Because of the time and attention we paid."

And now I am gone, but his children still play,
In the cool air of the place that we made.
