In practice in the system of Western Liberal Democracy, the Gov need only coerce the top 10% of income earners to keep the show on the road because they’re subsidising via redistribution the majority who contribute effectively nil.
The system doesnt need 50% to be destroyed, it needs a decent fraction of that top 10% to withdraw economically to unbalance the books and it will very quickly spiral out of control.
