It's astounding how much you need both headphones *and* monitors to judge a mix.

I recorded today's track on headphones, including spatial modeling software which kindly reveals troubling frequencies.

Despite that, the mix was SO different on monitors - the kick all out of whack, percussive elements wildly exaggerated..

It didn't take long to fix it once I was on monitors. And when I returned to headphones it sounded... fine, exactly the same as before.

It's a mystery!
