Specifically, evolved life must 1) be based on linear molecular structures to store genetic information, 2) be based on "cells" in order to protect fundamental life processes at the molecular level, 3) have cyclical behavior that is analogous to a metabolism, and 4) must eventually evolve to use multi--cellular organization.
Of course, if such evolved life develops and then uses biotechnology that enables it to modify itself, then we can't really predict what we might see.
