Shattered barriers. She wrote and arranged all her own songs. Talent just exploded out of her. The personnel on her records are like a funk supergroup. Unapologetic and aggressively sexual, she was eventually run out of the business by sexism (IMO). But not before a fair amount of success. Critics these days acknowledge her brilliance. /1
